Carroll University Scholarly Travel Grant Support
The travel grant provides financial relief for students to take their work into the professional realm off campus. At academic conferences, Carroll students not only share their work with others in their fields, but also learn about the work of students and professional academics, and gain access to invaluable professional networking opportunities. Scholarly travels other than conference presentations may also be considered for funding, on a case-by-case basis.
Below you will find a description of the grant application process. We encourage Carroll University students to work with faculty members to revise the work they do for classes and/or capstones to prepare for off-campus presentations and publication.
For the 2023-2024 academic year, all Carroll undergraduate and graduate students, in all fields, are eligible to apply for the Scholarly Travel Grant to supports their registration and travel expenses to present their work at academic conferences.
- Undergraduate students can apply for a maximum of $350 dollars
- Postgraduate students can apply for a maximum of $350 dollars
- Undergraduate and postgraduate students may apply for additional funding of up to $350 if the travel is international
Note that students who complete an undergraduate degree at Carroll and then enroll in a postgraduate degree also at Carroll may apply for up to $350 as an undergraduate, and then for an additional $350 (max) as a postgraduate.
Students may also opt to spend only a portion of their total individual grant money, saving it for later conferences. In this instance the student must submit a new application for the other conference(s), and the allocation of any remaining fund will be subject to application review and approval. No unspent undergraduate funds may carry over to the postgraduate pool. Applications are considered on an ongoing basis, and the committee's goal is to distribute the grants equitably across the academic year.
Application Process
To be considered for university support to present at an academic conference, the following items must be submitted for review:
- Submit an application
- Provide an abstract of the project to be presented
- Provide a one-page copy of the "schedule-at-a-glance" for the conference agenda
- Provide a full-time faculty endorsement. A full-time faculty member must indicate support for the travel request by sending an email to Student Senate Treasurer at sstreas@dos5.net
Applications are considered on an ongoing basis, and the committee's goal is to distribute the grants equitably across the academic year. Nevertheless, this is a very competitive application process and not everyone will be funded.
